Webinar set to be held on Britain’s decision on banning Hamas

A webinar entitled “Britain’s Banning of Hamas: Is It Justified?” is set to be held on November 28 on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People.

The event has been organized by Palestine Centre of Excellence (PACE) and Palestinian Cultural Organization Malaysia (PCOM).

Speakers include Peter Slezak from Independent Australian Jewish Voices, Muslim Imran from Palestinian Cultural Organization of Malaysia (PCOM), Mohideen Abdulkadir from Citizens International, and British activist Roland Loh.

In the 2006 Palestinian Legislative Elections, Hamas won the most seats in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

In December 2018, an attempt to get the UN to designate it as a terrorist organization was defeated in the General Assembly.

On November 19, 2021, however, the British home secretary announced that she will get a law passed to label Hamas a terrorist group. The move has been condemned by Palestinians of all political stripes.

Assuming that such a law will be approved by the British parliament, questions arise as to whether it is justifiable at all from the British point of view.

How does Hamas, which has no record of conducting any armed resistance in the UK or any western nation, threaten British interests?

What would the impact of this move by the British government be on the struggle for peace and justice in Palestine?

Follow the discussion on these questions, among others, by our panelists from London, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur who are highly knowledgeable and experienced observers of the Palestine-Israel issue.

Join us LIVE this Sunday (28 Nov) at 3.00 pm @ Palestine Centre of Excellence (PACE) Facebook or PCOM Facebook.
